Justin Waller, trombonist

What began as a way for an eleven year-old kid to get out of gym class has become a lifelong journey.

 

Dr. Justin Waller is an active musician and educator based in the Southeastern United States.  Justin currently serves as Lecturer of Trombone at East Tennessee State University, where he was awarded the ETSU College of Arts and Sciences Lecturer Award in 2020. Prior to becoming a member of this distinguished faculty, he served as an Adjunct Instructor of Music at Suffolk County Community College in Selden, NY, where he taught Applied Low Brass, Introduction to Music, History of Rock and Roll, and Basic Musicianship. He also taught multiple courses at Stony Brook University and has served as the low brass instructor for the Columbus State University Schwob School of Music Preparatory Division.

 

Justin has performed and recorded with such groups as the American Brass Quintet, the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera, the Gateway Playhouse, and numerous others.  He can be heard on the Summit and Innova record labels.

 

In 2019, Justin became co-director of Summer Trombone Workshop, founded in 2005 by Haim Avitsur, Associate Professor of Trombone at the Hartt School of Music.

 

Justin earned the Doctorate of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, NY, and graduated with the Bachelor of Music degree from Columbus State University in Columbus, GA.
